During our recent\u00a0visit of Sri Lanka we visited Galle. Galle\u00a0is a major city in Sri Lanka, situated on the southwestern tip, 119\u00a0km from\u00a0Colombo. Galle is the administrative capital of\u00a0Southern Province, Sri Lanka\u00a0and is the district capital of Galle District.\u00a0Galle is the fifth largest city in Sri Lanka. The biggest attraction of Galle, is the Galle Fort.\u00a0Galle Fort<\/b>, in the Bay of Galle\u00a0on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese\u00a0, then extensively fortified by the Dutch\u00a0during the 17th century. Galle Fort is a maze of old buildings. There are churches, administrative buildings and stores on the same lane. The restored buildings take you back to 17th century.\u00a0It is of archaeological and historical significance\u00a0to Sri Lanka.\u00a0The Galle Fort, also known as the Dutch Fort or the “Ramparts of Galle”, withstood the tsunami\u00a0which damaged part of coastal area\u00a0Galle town.<\/p>\n
