The Ceylon School for the Deaf and Blind is situated in Ratmalana, 12 km South of Colombo city center. The Ceylon School for the Deaf and Blind is one of the premier institutions which cater to the needs of people with hearing impairment and visual impairment in Sri Lanka. This institution is one of the oldest institutions of such kind. It started its journey in 1912, with only 2 children. Now they have 3 schools in Sri Lanka. 2 of them are situated in the same campus. One serves children with visual impairment. Another one serves children with hearing impairment. The other school is situated in Jafna, which is situated on the northern tip of the island. These are privately governed schools, which are assisted by the government. They have IT labs which has got more than 12 computers. The IT lab in The Ceylon School for the Blind had JAWS Screen Reader software installed in them, for the assistance of the persons with visual impairment.
