Recently Therap Global visited Intellectual Disabled & Autistic School at Lalmonirhat, Bangladesh. The school was established by a foreigner named Burn Heardt in 1983 and it was the first special school in that region. Special teacher Ms. Surovi along with two more teachers welcomed us at their premises.

Intellectual Disabled & Autistic School is one of the first schools in Bangladesh to start Inclusive Education. They are running special education, therapeutic services, inclusive education, referral, and rehabilitation services to improve the lives of children with disabilities. Currently, the school has 250 children in the inclusive setting under the kindergarten wing and 80 students in a special setting. In the inclusive setting, two teachers are placed in each class to facilitate the learning process of the students. The special education wing of the school was awarded “The Best Special School” in 2017.

Currently, the school is registered under SWID (Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled, Bangladesh) Bangladesh. SWID is a non-political, non-profitable and non-government organization working throughout the country. It was formed in December 1977 by some professionals, social workers and parents of the intellectually disabled children. SWID started schooling program for the intellectually disabled children. TTherap Global team had a discussion on how the school can improve its quality of service by using Therap software. The team also talked about the different features of the software for daily documentation. The school is currently documenting through Lesson Plan and Evaluation Report provided by SWID Bangladesh. We were then given a tour of both the special and inclusive setting. The students gave us a warm welcome and demonstrated a few performances. We invited the teachers to attend the Therap Global Rangpur Conference.

Therap Global also visited Buddhi Protibondhi and Autism School in Rangpur. The school has 108 special children. As Buddhi Protibondhi school was closed and only one teacher was available, we invited her to attend the conference in Rangpur on September 9, 2019.

Therap Global had a great time with the schools and hopes to continue this journey with them.
