Therap Asia organised their 2nd Annual Dhaka Conference 2018 at RAOWA Convention Hall on April 9, 2018. The main theme of the conference was ‘Using Documentation to Improve Quality of Care and Support for Better Future’. Among the attendees, there were Principals, Executive Board Members, Teachers, Therapist and also some parents who are providing support to the Persons with Disabilities (PWD). Both Therap users and potential Therap users from disability service providing agencies attended the conference.

The conference was inaugurated by Maj. Gen. (Retd.) M. Shamim Chowdhury, Head of HR and Vital Assets of Therap (BD) Ltd. He expressed his gratitude towards the attendees and welcomed them. Later on Richard Robbins, CEO of Therap Services shared his visions about Therap in Asia and also ensured that Therap will continue working collaboratively with the agencies across Asia. A team of experts from the Therap US team, who have been working in the PWD sector for more than 25 years, also presented at the Conference. From the Therap US team Michelle Saunders (Business Development Consultant), Shae Dotson (State Implementation Specialist), Fayonne Johnson (Senior Training and Implementation Specialist) and Joshua Corzantes (Senior Training and Implementation Specialist) shared their views about Disability Industry, Digital Documentation and Person Centered Planning. They also showed live demonstration of some of important modules of Therap.

Sessions were also conducted by users of Therap, who are actively implementing Therap at their organization. These users explained various ways they provide service to special children and also how Therap plays a role at their organization for regular documentation and keeping track of records of these services. It was Therap Asia’s honor and privilege to have Ms. Mamtaz Sultana, Vice Principal from Beautiful Mind School, Dr. Mushfekur Rahman, Chairperson, Angel’s Care Foundation, Ms. Sabina Hossain, Chairperson, SWAC and Shaila Afroz, Clinical Occupational Therapist, Smiling Children as Guest Speakers at the 2nd Annual Therap Dhaka Conference.

Therap also had teachers from these schools who presented at the Conference which included Ms. Sabrina Mustary Smrity (Beautiful Mind School), Shamima Akter Deepa (Angel’s Care Foundation),Mahbub Hasan (SWAC) and Roman Ali Shah (Smiling Children).

Later in the day, two simultaneous sessions were conducted. Persons who are in the Management body of an organization (such as Executive Members, Chairpersons) attended sessions which were specifically designed for them lead by Prattay Iqbal (International Business Development Executive) and Michelle Saunders (Business Development Consultant). Teachers and Parents attended sessions regarding important Therap Modules, taken by Therap US team and Therap Asia Team. A Therap User Group Question and Answers session was arranged, teachers from various schools asked Therap related questions and these were answered by teachers who gave presentation earlier in the day.

This year’s Top Therap User award was awarded to teachers from Smiling Children Special School (Dhaka) and Anuvab Buddhi Protibondhi School (Gaibandha). Top Agency which implemented Therap the best, was awarded to Angel’s Care Foundation (Dhaka).

Therap Asia is glad to have another successful conference this year. Therap Asia will always try to work collaboratively with the disability service providing agencies across Asia and will always try to make an impact so that the persons with disabilities get the best support from the agencies. Therap Asia will always strive to provide best support to the caregivers of disability service providing agencies. Therap Asia looks forward to have more conferences and workshops in the future across Asia.
