Training Session at Smiling Children Special School

We went there to hold another training session. Different issues were solved during the session. How the online software will be able to cater to the needs of such an organization in Asia was also discussed. A plan for future training sessions were also chalked out. Therap Visits Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled (SWID), Bangladesh
SWID, Bangladesh school in 4/A, Eskaton Garden, Dhaka, Bangladesh Therap visited Society for the Welfare of the Intellectually Disabled (SWID), Bangladesh. We met with Mr. Jowaherul Islam Mamun, President of SWID. He is also serving as the current president of Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities (AFID). We had some initial discussions with the president about future cooperation between SWID and Therap. We attended a reception, organized by SWID for the Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, who were successful in the Special Olympics. This year the event was held in Los Angeles, USA. Therap appreciates the participation of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities from Bangladesh in the Special Olympics. We wish them all the best for such future ventures.
Therap Visits “Beautiful Mind”
Andalib and Faisal at Beautiful Mind Beautiful Mind, Uttara, Dhaka, Bangladesh Therap visited a special school by the name "Beautiful Mind", situated in Uttara, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Beautiful Mind is a private organization registered under the Ministry of Social Welfare of Bangladesh. The special school was established in July 2004 by founder chairperson Dr. Shamim Matin Chowdhury. The chairperson has been a professional in the field for more than 30 years. We had some preliminary discussions with the special school. Hopefully good news will follow shortly. Follow the blogs to keep updated of all the activities of Therap in Asia.
Therap Visits Daya Mina
Faisal with Sister Anastasia in Daya Mina We visited Daya Mina, an organization which works with persons with Intellectual Disabilities in Sri Lanka. It is situated in Thalapathpitiya, Nugegoda, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Daya Mina is part of a charitable organization called "Sisters of Charity". "Sisters of Charity" has two other such facilities across Sri Lanka. One of them, Supem Uyana, is based in Gonapinuwala. And the other one, Meth Mihira, is based in Koralawella, Moratuwa. In Daya Mina, we met with Sister Anastasia, who was in charge of the establishment. Daya Mina provides vocational training, early intervention and different therapies. Bangladesh to Host 23rd AFID Conference in 2017
Mrs. Nandhini Wijayaratnam, Immediate past president of AFID hands over the flag to newly elected president of AFID, Mr. Jawaharul Islam Mamun from Bangladesh. The 23rd chapter of the AFID Conference will be hosted by Bangladesh in 2017. It was decided in the board meeting during closing ceremony of The 22nd Conference on Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities. According to the decisions of the meeting Mr. Jawaharul Islam Mamun became the newly elected president of AFID, and Mr. Sachida Nand Shrivastava from Nepal became 1st Vice President. Therap Visits The Ceylon Association for the Mentally Retarded (CAMR)

They currently have 60 affiliate members in Sri Lanka. They have recently hosted The 22nd Conference on Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities. We visited a day care center which is being run by CAMR in Colombo, Sri Lanka. There we had a meeting with the executive committee of CAMR. Closing Ceremony of 22nd AFID Conference
22nd AFID General Assembly being held The closing ceremony of The 22nd Conference on Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities was being held on 7 October, 2015. The ceremony started with live performances by persons with Intellectual Disabilities. There were also presentations done by self advocates of different member countries. They shared their life stories, and how they are coping up with the society. This was followed by the general assembly of The 22nd Conference on Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities. There was an open forum, where the review of the conference was done. Delegates and members got an opportunity to express their opinion about the conference. With Tahmina Huq, Special Education Teacher for Ministry of Education, Singapore Andalib and Faisal with delegates from APSN, Singapore. Delegates from Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN), were present at The 22nd Conference on Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities. The delegation was led by Dr. Francis C. Chen, who is an honorary member of Asian Federation on Intellectual Disabilities (AFID). We had exchange of ideas with the delegates. The idea of use of ICT in the Intellectual Disabilities field was well received by the delegates.

The Child Guidance Center is run by the Department of Social Services under Ministry of Social Services and Social Welfare, Sri Lanka. Mrs. G. L. Leela Gunasinghe, Superintendent of the center guided the delegates of the 22nd AFID. There were delegates of Singapore, Japan, Bangladesh and Korea.
